Brendan Sutton is the Chief Executive Officer of AIE REIT. Prior to joining AIE REIT, Mr. Sutton spent seven years working for Devon Properties Limited, the top multi-family property management company in Victoria, British Columbia. While at Devon Properties, Mr. Sutton was tasked with responsibilities in the areas of accounting, business development, and corporate development.
Past work also includes consulting for the Halifax Municipality regarding the creation of affordable work and/or residential space for artists and for the Shoal Lake and Cowessess First Nations communities in Saskatchewan regarding the creation of Comprehensive Community-Based Plans. Mr. Sutton holds a Master of Urban Planning from Dalhousie University and has completed the Certified Management Accountant Accelerated Program.
Heather Kerry is the Chief Financial Officer of AIE REIT. Prior to joining AIE REIT, Ms. Kerry was Vice President, Finance, at University of Victoria Properties Investments Inc. for over nine years, where she was responsible for finance, human resources and administration. She also provided strategic financial leadership in asset management and development, risk management, and process restructuring for the organization.
Ms. Kerry has also served as Chief Financial Officer for Partners REIT, as well as in management positions at CellFor Inc., Aspreva Pharmaceuticals and KPMG LLP’s assurance practice. She is a CPA, CA and holds a Master of Professional Accounting degree from the University of Saskatchewan as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University.
Kim Sterling is the Chief Operating Officer of AIE REIT. Prior to joining AIE REIT, Ms. Sterling co-founded StoreSmart Self-Storage, where she served as President and Chief Operating Officer for 16 years, growing the startup into a portfolio of properties totaling 310,000 square feet across five markets in Alberta. During this period, Ms. Sterling was responsible for strategic planning, corporate development, asset management, business operations, as well as acquisitions and development. In 2021, the company completed a successful sale of the self-storage portfolio.
Ms. Sterling has also served as Chair of the Canadian Self-Storage Association’s Lien Law Committee, tasked with the passage of industry-specific lien legislation. More recently, she served as Director for CastleAvery Hospitality Ventures Inc., a start-up hospitality and lodging company. Ms. Sterling holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours from the University of Calgary.
Shannon Scott joined AIE REIT as Head of Accounting and Finance in September 2021. Prior to joining, she had 13 years of experience in public practice accounting. During that time, she gained extensive experience with auditing and tax, managing clients with diverse corporate portfolios, as well as municipal and first nation governments, not-for-profit and charitable entities, estates, trusts, and individuals’ income tax needs.
Mrs. Scott received her Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 2012. She also holds Bachelor of Arts majoring in economics from the University of Victoria and a Post Degree Diploma in accounting with honours from Malaspina University (now Vancouver Island University).
